I was travelling around southern Spain, visiting flamenco guitar makers, so that I could set up my flamenco guitar business. On one day, I drove from Granada to a place called Gata de Gorgos and then headed back to Málaga before a flight the next morning back home. However, it got late, and I had been travelling since about 8am, without my phone, which had been stolen in a cafe in Granada a couple of days before. (I had been sitting in a cafe and a man had come up to me trying to sell something. He wanted me to take one of his leaflets. I had refused a couple of times. He then put a pile down on the table and urged me again to take one. I refused again, so he picked them up and walked off. When I got up to pay ,my bill 10 minutes later, I realised that he had picked up my mobile at the same time as his leaflets).
Anywayhoo, as I said, it was getting very late so I stopped in a little town on the coast called Almuñécar , drove around until I found a hotel that was open (it was off-season) and had a wonderful evening exploring the town.
Later in the year, I wrote this song, using my flamenco guitar and cajón, as well as some other instruments. I fell in love with the place. The light, the sea, the beaches. I hope that is reflected in this song.
It could do with a better singer, so if you would like to record it, let me know. Similarly if you would like a copy of the song email me and I’ll send you an MP3 – no charge!
Here are the lyrics:
Almuñécar
Seeing the light on your face
Makes me feel like I’m almost there
And the light in your eyes
Is like heaven and sunshine and no compromise
Sun-kissed blue water with golden light dawning
I long to dive into your heart
Bathed in your style and your beauty and passion
I long to dive into your heart
And when the moon rises low
The beams and your smile are like twins in their glow
And the stars and your face
Smile like a morning of lovers’ embrace
Sun-kissed blue water with golden light dawning
I long to dive into your heart
Bathed in your style and your beauty and passion
I long to dive into your heart
(Gtr solo)
(Repeat verse 1)
(Repeat Chorus)
